Needelss to say, the file/tag structure already works perfect under progs like iTunes, Windows mp3tag, etc. Names of varying locale, meaning that each and every program has to cope with mixed ASCII/UTF data in French, Gaelic, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Polish, Russian and Spanish (just to name a few). Music library consists of 56,507 tracks covering over 11,323 albums by 868 artists. AMD 3.7GHz dual core, 4GB RAM, external USB 2.0 drive (WD Elements 1TB). I don't use WINE for these things but have a secondary desktop with Win7. Especially when it comes to mp3 taggers, I have heard my fair share of utter nonsense mindlessly copied 1:1 from the corresponding website 'program features' section. Thanks in advance, JackĮver since the first mp3 files came into being my job included efficiently storing and retrieving large amounts of audio data for libraries, DJs, etc., so I have seen my fair share of scenarios. I'm running Mint 17.3 (Cinnamon) on a 64-bit desktop and an old laptop. Over 50 years experience with computers and programming, but a newbie when it comes to Linux. I've read things that suggest that it's not a good thing to do.Ībout me: I'm a refugee from Windows XP. I found directions on how to do this, but it goes around the Mint Software Manager (I think), and I'm not sure that it will keep itself up to date, and I don't know whether it's safe to do that or not. Not sure how to do this, but somebody might have a copy.ģ) Upgrade WINE. I couldn't figure out how to get either program to add an album cover to a set of tracks)Ģ) Find an old version of MP3TAG that works with WINE 1.6.x. (I've tried both, and neither seems very easy to use. My main objective is to clean up old tags in my music collection and add album covers to music I've recorded.ġ) Forget about MP3TAG and learn how to use EASYTAG or PUDDLETAG or something else. I started by uninstalling MP3TAG 2.80, knowing that I can re-install it if I figure out how to upgrade Wine. I'm looking for advice on how to proceed. A little searching on the net suggests that later versions of WINE are available, up to version 1.9.x (and 2.0 in beta), but they aren't offered by the Mint Software Manager. I couldn't find an older version of MP3TAG to try, and my Software Manager tells me that WINE 1.6.2 is the latest version available using Mint. However, when I tried to run it, it sat for a few seconds and crashed with an error message that I failed to write down, but the gist of it was that I shouldn't be trying to run MP3TAG version 2.80 using WINE version 1.6.2. I believe I figured out how to install it, as I downloaded the Windows executable and ran it using WINE, It seemed to work and install, at least I got no nasty messages, and it installed icons on my desktop and in the Start menu. I'm trying to install and use MP3TAG with WINE.
